Some projects come along that inspire deep connection and demand a higher level of excellence than usual. I was tasked with creating visuals for Women's History Month for VA's Office of Women's Health. Our team had collectively decided to celebrate Native American women veterans.
In doing some research across the many tribes and nations the women we were featuring came from, I saw that one commonality was the use of quilts for storytelling, reverence, and tradition. I researched each of the tribes and nations our eight featured women came from and created quilt block patterns inspired by their traditional tribal work. I collaborated closely with the VHA Office of Tribal Health and other groups to ensure I was approaching everything traditionally and respectfully.
A VA News article about this campaign can be found here. I am immensely proud of this work and the response we received was overwhelmingly positive and appreciative.
